<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal compound in a high oxidation state for medical treatment or prevention of microbial infection including bacterial infection, especially, a composition containing a silver (III) compound, and a medical device into which the compound or the composition is incorporated, where such composition is stable at room temperature and pressure and is applicable to base materials for the medical device, such as polyurethane containing no biologically unacceptable moiety, despite of their strong oxidative property. <P>SOLUTION: The compound includes a metal species and a biologically acceptable ligand. The biologically acceptable ligand contains a biguanide moiety, the biologically acceptable ligand forms a complex with a metal species, and the compound is stabilized in an oxidation state of the metal specie exceeding "1+". The composition and the medical device include this compound.
