Provided are: a rubber composition for tires, which can have improved low-fuel consumption performance, improved wet grip performance and improved wear resistance; and a pneumatic tire produced using the rubber composition. The present invention relates to a rubber composition for tires, which comprises a diene polymer, a silica and a liquid resin having a softening point of -20 to 20°C, wherein the diene polymer is a modified diene polymer produced by reacting components (A) and (B) as mentioned below with each other and the content of the liquid resin is 3 to 40 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the rubber component: (A): an active conjugated diene polymer having an alkali metal terminal, which is produced by polymerizing a conjugated diene monomer or polymerizing a conjugated diene monomer with an aromatic vinyl monomer both in the presence of a component (C) as mentioned below; (B): a modifying agent having a functional group; and (C): a chemical species which is produced by reacting a compound represented by formula (1) with an organic alkali metal compound. |
