PURPOSE: A controlling method for a continuous variable transmission of a vehicle is provided to control the operating fluid pressure of a secondary transmission by feedback-control using errors between a target gear shifting ratio of the secondary transmission and a real transmission ratio of the secondary transmission. CONSTITUTION: A transmission controller receives information about primary pulley rotating speed, secondary pulley rotation speed, transmission output steed, vehicle speed, throttle opening degree, and engine torque(S10). An entire target transmission ratio setting stage(S20) is for calculating an entire target transmission ratio, which has to be secured in a next stage, from a current driving state. A mode conversion determining stage(S31, S32) is for determining whether the entire transmission ratio of a transmission crosses a mode conversion transmission ratio. A secondary transmission gear shifting determining stage(S41, S42) is for determining the transmission varying method of a secondary transmission. An inertia phase determining stage(S51, S52) is for determining whether secondary pulley rotation speed is inertia phase. A variator transmission property setting stage(S61, S62) is for generating a variator target transmission ratio. A coordination control stage(S71, S72) is for starting the gear shifting of the secondary transmission and the gear shifting of the variator.
