1,044,048. Tunnel diode oscillators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 29, 1963 [Aug. 22, 1962], No. 30022/63. Heading H3T. An oscillator comprises a tunnel diode negative resistance 1 arranged across one diagonal of a resonant bridge having inductive capacitive arms and has a series-resonant frequency-determining element 3 arranged across the other, the bridge being so detuned that changes of resistance of the series resonant element, e.g. with temperature or age, compensate for drift in the frequency of the oscillator. The resonant arms L and C of the bridge are preferably chosen such that the resistances in the other arms are numerically equal to L/C. The bridge then has a constant resistance except when the crystal has a low impedance, at which frequency the bridge has a high impedance and oscillation takes place. The resonant element could alternatively be a tuning fork or a magnetostrictive wire. |
