[Also in Division B5] An apparatus for sealing and cutting the projecting ears E of filled and closed block bottomed paper bags each having a heat sealable coating or plastics foil material lining comprises vertically reciprocable heads 11 rotatable together with bag receiving boxes 6 about an axis 1, which heads have pivotable heated sealing jaws 18a, 18b arranged to co-operate with counter pressure jaws 13a, 13b. Each head has cam followers 14, 20a and 20b which engage a cam 19 to cause the head to index downwardly and the jaws 18a, 13a and 18b, 13b to be forced together. Shearing jaws 31, 35 are positioned above the sealing and pressure jaws. The jaws 13a, 13b are formed of silicon rubber and the jaws 18a, 18b may be electrically heated through a heating cartridge 29 (Fig. 4, not shown), via brushes 27 and rings 28 and may be thermostatically controlled. The cam 19 may be adjusted vertically to accommodate bags of various sizes. The apparatus may comprise two or three sealing heads. |
