PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a nitrile compound of high purity in a high yield.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the nitrile compound comprises reacting an alcohol compound with acrylonitrile in the presence of a base, where a reaction terminator is added to the reaction mixture under a condition where the temperature of the reaction mixture is 15°C or lower.
