<p>The disclosure provides attenuated Toxoplasma gondii mutants for use as vaccines or treatment of cancer. More specifically, the attenuated mutants include a knockout mutation of one or more genes of the de novo pyrimidine synthesis pathway, or are generated by gamma-irradiation. Further disclosed are cancers that can be treated with the attenuated mutants.</p>
