<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a master unit to acquire caller information to perform desired processing in a communication device configured such that, instead of the mater unit, a subunit provides a caller information acquisition function from a voice signal transmitted from the line side. <P>SOLUTION: A communication device 1 is compatible to a number display service. A master unit 2 connected to a telephone line 100 radio relays the transmission and reception of signals (voice signals) in a voice frequency band between the telephone line 100 and each subunit 3, 4. A FAX subunit 3 extracts caller number information from the voice signal from the line side received through the master unit 2, so as to transfer the caller number information etc. to the master unit 2.
