PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization splitting film which is capable of fulfilling a reflective polarization splitting function and has a simple configuration.

SOLUTION: A polarization splitting film 10 includes a light-transmissive base portion 20 and light-transmissive particles 25 dispersed in the base portion. A refractive index difference (¾Nx-nx¾) between a refractive index Nx of the base portion along an x direction parallel with a film surface of the polarization splitting film and a refractive index nx of the particles along the x direction is greater than a refractive index difference (¾Ny-ny¾) between a refractive index Ny of the base portion along a y direction orthogonal to the film surface of the polarization splitting film and a refractive index ny of the particles along the y direction.
