Disclosed is a safety coupling assembly (100) for connecting segments of a conduit, such as a hose or a flexible pipe. The safety coupling assembly comprises a female member (50) and a male member (10), which are held together by spring operated toggle latches (70A,70B). The force required for connecting the female member with the male member of the safety coupling assembly can be selected independent from the force required for disconnecting the male member form the female member.
