Disclosed are a method and terminal for reporting uplink transmit diversity ability. The method includes: a terminal configuring the uplink transmit diversity ability thereof into an uplink air interface signalling; and the terminal reporting to the network side the uplink transmit diversity ability of the terminal through the uplink air interface signalling. The present invention realizes the reporting of the uplink opened-loop transmit diversity ability and/or uplink closed-loop transmit diversity ability.
