The apparatus (101) has two vaporizers for cooling two compartments e.g. cooling compartment (105) and freezing compartment (109), by a coolant, respectively. One of the vaporizers is provided for liquefaction of the coolant vaporized by the other vaporizer during de-icing operation. One of the compartments has lower target temperature than the other compartment. A separating device separates the former vaporizer from a refrigerant circuit. A temperature detector detects temperature of the vaporizers. Two non-return valves (111, 113) are provided in the refrigerant circuit of the vaporizers. The vaporizers are designed as condensers, cooling compartment vaporizers (103), freezing compartment vaporizers (107), plate-type vaporizers, slat vaporizers or roll bond vaporizers. An independent claim is also included for a method for defrosting a vaporizer in a cooling apparatus.
