<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile communication system, capable of changing a period to retain connection information in a base station device, according to settings related to the switchover of a radio communication standard actually used by a mobile station device conforming to a plurality of radio communication standards. <P>SOLUTION: In a mobile communication system 100, a mobile station device 1 notifies a first base station device 2 of a first retention period when being set to a first mode performing radio communication with one of a first base station device 2 and a second base station device 4. The mobile station device 1 notifies the first base station device 2 of a second retention period longer than the first retention period when being set to a second mode performing radio communication with only the first base station device 2.
