[Also in Division G3] A control valve for regulating the pressure in an aircraft cabin comprises a grill-like seat member 25 mounted in a port 33 in the cabin wall 11 and having arms 30 carrying a housing 20 and co-operating therewith, with the interposition of a ring 23, to locate the periphery of a diaphragm 15 having a thickened central portion 16, the diaphragm defining one wall of a chamber 18 connected via conduit 60 and cock 62 to a port 45 in the cabin wall, via bleed orifice 36 with the cabin, and via a port 48 with a chamber 40 having a connection via conduit 44 with the orifice 45. One wall of the chamber 40 comprises a diaphragm 41 carrying a pilot valve member 49 urged by springs 52, 52a to close the port 48, the diaphragm being acted upon on its other side by cabin pressure in a chamber 39 communicating with the cabin via port 42. A disc 54 limits travel of diaphragm 41. In operation, when the cabin is pressurized air flows through annular space 31 to create a lower pressure on the outer face of diaphragm 15 and allows the higher cabin pressure in chamber 18 to move the diaphragm to seat against the ports 27, 29 in the valve seat 25. Should the cabin pressure exceed the outside pressure by more than an amount predetermined by spring 52, the diaphragm 41 moves to unseat pilot valve 49 to vent chamber 18 and thereby permit the pressure acting on that part of diaphragm 15 in space 31 to unseat the latter. Should the outside pressure ever exceed the cabin pressure it will unseat diaphragm 15 by acting over the central external portion thereof. If it is required to depressurize the cabin, cock 62 is open to vent chamber 18 to thereby open the main valve. In the alternative embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), the valve is mounted on the outside of the cabin. By employing a different type of pilot valve (type unspecified) the valve may be used to maintain a desired absolute cabin pressure by controlling release of air from the cabin. The diaphragm is biased to the position shown, but in an alternative embodiment the co-operating face of the seat member may lie in the same plane as the closure face of the diaphragm, thereby constituting a normally closed valve.</p>
