The invention comprises dyes of the formula <FORM:1027576/C4-C5/1> wherein X is -CN or -CONH2 which are obtained by heating the 4-aminoanthraquinone-benzacridone with copper-I-cyanide and, if desired, hydrolysing the -CN group to -CONH2, e.g. in concentrated H2SO4. The first reaction may be performed in an inert solvent, e.g. nitrobenzene or o-dichlorobenzene, in the presence of pyridine or quinoline. The dyes may be applied to aromatic polyester materials as fine aqueous dispersions. Examples are given.
