A substantially parallelepipedic filled package, shown in continuous lines in Figs. 1, 2 (latter not shown), with rectangular top and bottom walls has side walls which are shaped to be slightly convex with consequent drawing-in of the longitudinal edges, the peripheral length of the walls thus being constant at all horizontal sections. The filled packages are contoured in correspondingly shaped cells. In one embodiment the shaping cell is formed to correspond exactly to the required shape of the cell package, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), and has flat top and bottom walls attached to shaped side walls (3) which are joined together at the corners (4). In a second embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the domed side walls are separate, the walls (12) being connected to the walls (10) by screws (13); the corners of the cells being left open. By adjusting these screws (13) the degree of curvature of two opposite side walls (12) can be adjusted so that production tolerances of the shaping cell and different thicknesses of packaging material can be compensated for. These screws (13) may be locked to standardize the device. Only one side need be adjustable. Shaping cell halves secured on endless chains, the halves being brought together for the shaping operation, may be used on machines in which tubular webs are filled and sealed transversely. |
