Optoelectronic security sensor to measure distance for monitoring a surveillance area

The distance measuring optoelectronic protection sensor (10) has an opto-receiver (24) for generating a reception signal during the opto-reception from a monitoring area (18). A memory (34) is provided for storing the history with object interference information of the switch-off events. A diagnosing unit (36) is designed to classify the switch-off events stored in the memory based on the object intervention information. An evaluation unit (30) which is designed to detect the objects in the monitoring area with help of the reception signal. An independent claim is provided for a method for monitoring a monitoring area.
