An inhalant composition comprises as the essential active ingredient 2-amino-6-methyl heptane. It may be used in admixture with a vaso-constrictor amine, e.g. 1-cyclohexyl-2 methylamino propane, 1-cyclopentyl-2-aminopropane, 2-amino-4-methyl hexane, N-methyl phenyl tertiary butylamine, 2-aminoheptane or 1-1-phenyl2-methylaminopropane. The ratio of 2-amino6-methyl heptane to vasoconstrictor amine may range from 1 : 1 to 9 : 1. An inert liquid vehicle, e.g. dibutyl phthalate or benzyl salicylate, may be used. Compounds which reduce the vapour pressures of the specified amenes, e.g. alcohols, glycols, and essential oils, may also be incorporated. Flavouring agents, e.g. menthol or oil of lavender, may also be added. The amines may be treated with carbon dioxide in the presence or absence of water to form carbamates or carbonates. A vapor dosage of 0.25 mg.-1.5 mg. of 2-amino-6-methylheptane may be administered intranasally from 1 to 8 times per day using conventional pocket inhalers.
