The device has a base foundation (2) i.e. base dowel, including a cylindrical pipe body (3) with an inner diameter, which is larger than a maximum diagonal dimension of a post (1). The post is provided with a lower driving tip (4) at a lower drive-side end. A post foot stands in the driving tip. An adjusting device (10) vertically adjustably supports the post foot in the pipe body. The adjusting device includes a support plate, which is transversely/diagonally extended in the pipe body and axially displaced over a central threaded spindle (13). The post foot stands on the support plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for aligning and fastening a post.
