984,225. Friction brakes. FORMSPRAG CO. Dec. 20, 1961 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 45650/61. Heading F2E. Relates to a bi-directional torque transmission device with means preventing reaction in either direction of driven member 15 on a driving member 30, wherein oppositely directed sets of sprags 13, 14 pivotally socketed in the driven member 15 are urged by a garter spring 28 to wedgingly engage a fixed outer race 11 for said prevention of driven member reaction and axially extending fingers 34 on a sleeve 33 connected to the driving member 30 first release the wedging set of sprags by engaging the outer sprag portions 36 and then drive the driven member 15 through socketed portions 25 of the released sprags. To minimize the torque required to release the wedging set of sprags in such an arrangement, the fingers. 34 are connected to the driving member 30 by radial (Fig. 5, not shown) or, as shown, axial third order lever pintles 50 fulcrumed by their portions 52 in bores 53 in the driven member 15 and having their points of effort 56 engaged by bores 57 of the driving member 30 and their points of load 54 engaging bores 48 in a flange 47 of the sleeve 33. As shown the pintles 50 have spacer enlargements 58 for axial location. Specification 936,954 is referred to. |
