In making thermoplastic ABS molding composition in kneader reactor from (A, B) graft rubbers from emulsion polymerization of M on latex particles of diameter d 5 0 (A) under, (B) not less than 200 nm and (C) thermoplastic resin from M, where M are not less than 2 of (alpha -methyl)styrene, (meth)acrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate and N-phenylmaleimide, (A, B) are made separately, rubber fraction from (A) is not less than 5 wt.% less than from (B) and all rubber particles have d 5 0 = 300 nm. Production of thermoplastic molding composition (I) of the ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) type in a kneader reactor uses (A, B) graft rubbers obtained by emulsion polymerization of monomers (M) in the presence of at least one rubber latex with an average particle diameter d 5 0 of (A) under 200, (B) at least 200 nm and (C) rubber-free thermoplastic polymer resin(s) obtained by free radical polymerization of M. In each case, M are not less than 2 monomers selected from styrene, alpha -methylstyrene, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate and N-phenylmaleimide. The novel features are that (a) (A) and (B) are produced in separate polymerization reactions, (b) the fraction of rubber from graft components (A) is not less than 5 wt.% less than that from (B) (with respect to 100 parts weight graft rubber) and (c) all rubber particles in the molding composition have d 5 0 = 300 nm. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) production of thermoplastic molding composition (II) as for (I), but using rubber latex with an average particle diameter d 5 0 of (A) under 200, (B) at least 300 nm, in which (A, B) are produced together in a polymerization reaction, (b) the fraction of rubber from (A) is 0-25 wt.% less than that from (B) and (c) all rubber particles in the molding composition have d 5 0 >= 300 nm; (2) molding compositions (I) and (II); (3) moldings made from (I) and (II).
