Method and device for a discontinuous wire supply movement in particular for arc welding or soldering

The method involves guiding a wire electrode (14) in a wire guidance and continuously feeding the electrode from a wire-wound coil (12) in a direction of a burner (8). Discontinuous movement of the electrode is impressed by a reversing unit (36) such that a feeding path of the electrode is extended or shortened by linear movement of an electromechanical linear drive system e.g. piezoelectric linear actuator, coupled with the wire guidance. The linear movement is implemented in or against a feeding direction of the electrode. A clamping device is integrated in the drive system. An independent claim is also included for a device for impressing a discontinuous movement for a wire electrode, comprising a buffer memory.
