PURPOSE: A composition containing a Rhus verniciflua Stokes extract for preventing and treating cholesterolemia is provided to prevent or treat hyperlipidemia and fatty liver using an ethyl acetate fraction and a single material of the extract. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating cholesterolemia contains a Rhus verniciflua Stokes extract as a main ingredient. A composition for promoting hair growth and preventing alopecia contains the extract as an active ingredient. A health functional food for promoting hair growth and preventing alopecia contains a hot water extract of Rhus verniciflua Stokes. The health functional food is fustin(3,3',4',7-tetrahydroxyflavanone) with a white crystalline form which is fractioned from the hot water extract.
