PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method are provided to manufacture the liquid crystal display device at low costs. CONSTITUTION: Planar electrodes are formed on a first substrate(1a) and a second substrate(1b). A spacer(5) maintains a cell gap between planar electrodes. Liquid crystal is gelled by adding aerogel powder in the liquid crystal. After a liquid crystal layer(2) is formed by spreading the liquid crystal on the second substrate, the first substrate is attached on the liquid crystal layer and is bonded. The liquid crystal layer is sealed by a sealant(4).
