PURPOSE: A direct drive traction motor for railway vehicles is provide to separate a traction motor from a bogie by installing couplings between axles of the bogie wheel sets and the shaft of the traction motor, thereby simplify maintenance process. CONSTITUTION: A traction motor stator(110) is fixed to the direct drive traction motor(11) located under a bogie(10) of a railway vehicle(1). A rotor(120) which is unified with the inner axles(130) of the traction motor is installed at the inner side of the direct drive traction motor. Couplings(140) on the traction motor are connected at both ends of the inner axles of the traction motor. Outer bearing(150) and inner bearing(160) on wheel sets are fixed at the lower part of the bogie for supporting outer axle of the wheel sets and the bogie. Couplings(180) on the wheel sets are mounted on both ends of the outer axles for being coupled with the couplings on the traction motor.
