Disclosed is cathodic electrodeposition coating comprising at least one binder, at least one crosslinking agent, at least one bismuth compound comprising a basic bismuth nitrate, and a polymethylene urea. In one embodiment, the basic bismuth nitrate compound comprises a bismuth subnitrate of the empirical formula 4(BiNO3(OH)2)BiO(OH).
