PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect loading amount of a storage compartment in a simple configuration and further to perform appropriate operation in accordance with the loading amount.

SOLUTION: A refrigerator includes: a storage compartment comprising a door that can be opened and closed; a cooler for cooling the storage compartment; a temperature detection means for detecting the temperature inside of the storage compartment; and a control means which detects initial loading amount by storage articles stored in the storage compartment based on a detection result of the temperature detection means, estimates residual loading amount by storage articles residual in the storage compartment with the initial loading amount as a criterion and changes operation control based on the residual loading amount.
