1,045,095. Thermal regenerators. H. BRANDT, and A. KRITZLER, [trading as APPARATEBAU ROTHEMœHLE BRANDT & KRITZLER]. Dec. 22, 1964 [Dec. 24, 1963], No. 52041/64. Heading F4K. In a thermal regenerator having chambers containing heat transfer material, condensation on the chamber walls at the cold end of the regenerator is prevented by providing all or part of these walls with internal heating means in the form of passages for a heating fluid. The chambers are normally formed by radial walls 27 which extend from a circular outer wall 26 to a circular inner wall. The invention may be incorporated in any of these walls, but as shown is applied to the radially extending walls 27, wherein the hot end 33 of the radial wall is unheated, and the cold end 35 is heated by steam passing through channels 41, 42 formed by welding a sheet 36 to the wall 35. Steam flows from one channel to the other through a small gap 44 between the sheet and the wall. In another embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), intended for use when the heating fluid is hot oil, the sheet forms a single serpentine channel. In another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the heated portion of the wall is slidingly connected to the unheated portion to permit of relative expansion.
