<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit for a vehicle steering system capable of reducing power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle steering system 1 includes: an electric motor 51 that applies torque to a steering shaft 35 with the use of magnetic field units that differ in the number of turns; and a control unit 67 that controls the torque of the electric motor 51 on the basis of steering torque that is torque input to the steering shaft 35 in response to an operation of a steering wheel 12.
