<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blocking/opening method by which a tap hole is blocked and also the blocked tap hole can be easily opened. <P>SOLUTION: The blocking/opening method is provided by which a tap hole W2 formed on a furnace wall W1 of a blast furnace W is blocked and also the blocked tap hole is opened. The method includes: a blocking step of blocking the tap hole by pushing a mud material 100 and a substantially bar-shaped blocking plug into the tap hole and baking the mud material; and an opening step of forming the tap hole by excavating the blocking plug and the baked mud material.
