<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can accurately perform positioning between patterns which are not continuous in a sewing order when a plurality of patterns are sewn while changing a holding position of a sewing object by an embroidery frame. <P>SOLUTION: When a plurality of patterns 151 to 154 are sequentially sewn, a first layout (a smallest rectangle 230D) of the pattern 154 is determined on the basis of image data of markers arranged in the vicinities (110G and 110H) of the adjacent parts of the patterns 153 and 154, a layout relationship between the patterns, and sewing data of the pattern 154. When the pattern 154 is also adjacent to the pattern 151, a second layout (a smallest rectangle 230E) of the pattern 154 is determined on the basis of image data of markers arranged in the vicinities (110C and 110D) of the adjacent parts of the patterns 151 and 154, a layout relationship between the patterns, and the sewing data of the pattern 154.
