<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To much more surely identify an object. <P>SOLUTION: A pixel value X of a pixel under consideration of an image to be processed is mapped to an observation point of a feature space with each of color components configuring a pixel value as an axis. In an identification device, likelihood that a true value of the pixel value X mapped to an arbitrary observation point of the feature space is Y and skin probability distribution of a pixel value of a pixel of a skin area with no noise are prepared in advance, and whether or not the pixel under consideration is the pixel of the skin area is identified on the basis of the likelihood and the skin probability distribution. That is, true value probability distribution that the true value of the pixel value X is Y is calculated from the likelihood prepared for the pixel value X of the pixel under consideration, and whether or not the pixel under consideration is the pixel of the skin area is identified on the basis of probability that the pixel under consideration is the pixel of the skin area, which is calculated by the superimposition of the true value probability distribution and the skin probability distribution.
