PURPOSE: A shock absorbing device for a guard rail is provided to ensure an excellent shock absorbing performance with a lower cost and a simple structure. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing device for a guard rail comprises a cover member(10), a round rail(20), a W-shaped buffer plate(30), a mount plate(40), and a secondary buffer member(50). The cover member is fixedly combined with the outer side end of each rail plate(2). Both ends of the round rail are fixedly combined with the end of each rail plate. The round rail primarily absorbs a shock in a vehicle crash. The buffer plate is arranged between the tip end of the rail plates and the round rail. The buffer plate secondarily absorbs the shock in the vehicle crash. The mount plate is fixed to the outer side of the buffer plate and increases buffering action in the vehicle crash. The secondary buffer member is installed between the central part of the buffer plate and the mount plate and absorbs the shock for the third time by an elastic force.
