Substituted thioformamides of the general formula RR1NCHS are prepared by reacting a secondary amine having the general formula RR1NH with carbon tetrachloride and hydrogen sulphide at an elevated pressure; R and R1 in the above formulae each represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aromatic radical or R and R1 together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring. The reaction is preferably performed at 100 to 250 p.s.i.g. in an autoclave whilst vigorously stirring the reaction mixture. |
