PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a power saving method thereof are provided to assign an exclusive core for blocking entry into a low power mode. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(151) displays a setting menu for dividing multiple cores included in a processor into a normal core and an exclusive core. A memory(160) stores the set normal cores and the set exclusive cores. When the multiple cores are operated, a control unit(180) checks if the cores are in an idle state. When all cores are in an idle state, the control unit enters a first low power mode. When the cores except for the exclusive cores are in an idle state, the control unit enters a second low power mode.
