The system (1) has a lifting chain (2) comprising an electric hoist (3) equipped with an electrical motor (12) and a control unit e.g. portable computer and a control and management device for controlling and managing the lifting chain. An automatic measurement unit (18) performs real time measurement of load relative to a load lifted by the chain. An automatic control unit is connected to the measurement unit and to the motor, and compares the load measurement with a predetermined threshold value and controls cut-off of the motor when the load measurement exceeds the threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a method for lifting a load i.e. engine, of aircraft.
