PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a control method are provided to adaptively match the impedance of an antenna with the impedance of a circuit according to an external environment change of the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A matching unit(220) matches impedances as for each frequency. Each frequency is received or transmitted from a duplexer. A signal sensing unit(210) senses a VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) for the associated frequency. A control unit(250) controls the matching unit. A memory unit(260) stores a table recording coordinates of an Smith chart according to the VSWR of the frequencies.
