The method involves generating a set of numbers in a memory of a digital signal processor. A table is arranged with a set of binary values in correspondence with a set of exponents. A table of superscripts is arranged to have the set of exponents in correspondence with the set of binary values. An algorithm is executed to determine exponent values based on the set of numbers. A final result is calculated from an extended table of exhibitors. An independent claim is also included for a digital signal processor.
