889,410. Contacting a gas or vapour with a liquid. LYDERSON, A. L., and GILDE. R. April 11, 1960 [April 13, 1959], No. 12848/60. Class 55 (2). In a column wherein a gas or vapour is contacted with a liquid there are arranged at space intervals banks of vertical filamentous sheets spaced apart to provide passages for the upward flow of gas or vapour, each sheet being provided over its whole or part of its height with transverse corrugations which catch liquid descending the column and dripping from sheets in the bank above. The sheets are supported from beams d and by rods c and some of the transverse filaments of the sheets may be removed as shown at a to improve distribution of liquid over the sheets. Vertical filaments of the sheets may project at the lower edges of the sheets as shown and the corners may be cut off to prevent liquid flowing to the walls of the column. Plates f may be provided on the walls of the column to direct liquid flowing down the walls of the column on to the filamentous sheets.
|
