<p>The present invention provides a liquid crystal driving method whereby response speed can be adequately increased, electric field distortion is reduced, transmittance during black display is adequately reduced, and contrast ratio is adequately improved. The present invention is a method for driving liquid crystals using liquid-crystal-layer-side electrodes (17, 19) disposed on either an upper or lower substrate, and an electrode (13) on the opposite side from the liquid crystal layer side, wherein the electrode (13) on the opposite side from the liquid crystal layer side performs a drive operation in which the absolute value of the applied voltage is (+alpha) higher than that of the electrodes (17, 19) on the liquid crystal layer side, and the liquid crystals are aligned in the direction perpendicular or horizontal with respect to the principal surface of the substrate. The present invention can be applied to a field sequential-type liquid crystal display device, a vehicle-mounted display device, or a stereo-vision-capable liquid crystal display device (3D liquid crystal display device).</p> |
