<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a medium processor capable of enhancing accuracy in recognition for recognizing magnetic ink character information from magnetic ink characters printed on a surface of a medium. <P>SOLUTION: A check processor 1 comprises: a magnetic reading unit 41 for acquiring magnetic information of magnetic ink characters S2 from a check S1; and a surface image reading unit 25 that irradiates surface image reading light to the check S1 and acquires surface image information. When a magnetic ink character reading command for reading the magnetic ink characters S2 is supplied from a computer 80, the surface image reading unit 25 is set to an eleventh surface image reading mode for acquiring the surface image information irradiated with infrared rays. The check processor 1 conveys the check S1 along a check conveyance path P1, acquires the magnetic information and the surface image information irradiated with the infrared rays and transmits them to the computer 80.
