An apparatus for use as an authentication server can include a first interface configured to communicate with a first user. The apparatus can further includes an authentication controller configured to authenticate the first user based on a first deposit of a first item, authenticate the second user based on a second deposit of a second item, transfer the first deposit to a first pool, wherein the first pool contains a plurality of the first item, transfer the second deposit to a second pool wherein the second pool contains a plurality of the second item, authenticate an exchange transaction between the first user and the second user, transfer a third item from the first pool to the second user, and transfer a fourth item from the second pool to the first user. |
