The invention relates to incoherent and coherent acquisition methods for driving vibrational source arrays under the water. In one aspect, first and second source arrays 340a-b are activated simultaneously so that incoherent coded driving signals drive the first and second source arrays. Each source array includes a plurality of individual source elements. The signals are incoherent as the source elements of array 340a have a different content from those in 340b.
