<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article including a birefringent pattern film disposed in a partial area on a substrate surface, in which a step of the surface is smoothed. <P>SOLUTION: The article comprises, in the following order, a substrate, a birefringent pattern film including a patterned optical anisotropic layer having at least two areas with different birefringent properties, and a transparent overcoat layer. The birefringent pattern film is disposed in a partial area on a surface of the substrate; and the overcoat layer covers the entire surface of the substrate where the birefringent pattern film is disposed. The birefringent pattern film has a thickness of 5 to 200 μm, while the thickness of the overcoat layer is 1.2 to 5 times as the thickness of the birefringent pattern film in an area where no birefringent pattern film is disposed. The overcoat layer shows a frontal retardation of 0 to 200 nm with ±50 nm error of the frontal retardation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
