[Also in Division F2] In a bearing device a shaft 14 of a gas turbine engine rotates in a bush 15 having a longitudinally arcuate outer surface 16 abutting a longitudinally arcuate inner surface 17 of a fixed housing 18, the radius of curvature of the said outer surface 16 being less than that of the said inner surface 17, so that the bush may rock when the shaft tilts. Oil is supplied to the inner surface of bush 15 via duct 23 in the housing and drilling 24 in bobbin 25. The bobbin has flanges 26, 27 in apertures in the housing and bush, diametrically opposed flats 28 to allow relative movement of bush and housing, and rectangular boss 30 to prevent its rotation. The bush bears on annular springs 21, 22 during tilting of shaft and bush, and the springs also tilt the bush when the shaft is not tilted, to reduce oil loss. The bush may be assymetrically curved and may contain a roller bearing. The bearing is applied to a shaft of a gas turbine jet engine used as a "tip jet" on the end of a helicopter rotor blade. |
