Surface modification of components made of light metals, comprises (a) performing a pre-treatment comprising at least partially or completely removing a oxide layer present optionally on a surface of the component, and producing a fresh microporous oxide layer on the surface of the component, and (b) incorporating at least one reactive polymer comprising at least one kind of reactive groups of amino groups and/or hydroxyl groups in the pores of the produced microporous oxide layer. Independent claims are also included for: (1) cohesively connecting components made of light metals with objects to be connected, comprising performing surface modification of the component, applying at least one adhesive to the modified surface of the component and/or the object to be connected, and placing the component with the object to be connected in material- and/or positive contact, and curing the adhesive; and (2) a composite made from the component comprising light metals and the object connected with the component, where the composite is produced by the above method.
