A gas generator which comprises: an electrolytic cell that generates a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and oxygen by means of electrolysis; a supply tank for storing pure water with which the electrolytic cell is supplied, the supply tank having been connected to the electrolytic cell; a radiator for regulating the temperature of an electrolytic solution within the electrolytic cell to a value in a given temperature range by forcibly circulating the electrolytic solution through the radiator; and a controller for controlling the gas generator. The electrolytic cell is configured of: a vessel; an electrolytic solution held in the vessel; an anode and a cathode that have been disposed in the electrolytic solution; a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of the electrolytic solution, the sensor having been attached to the vessel; and an outlet port for taking out a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and oxygen that have generated, the outlet port having been disposed on the vessel. The radiator has been connected to the electrolytic cell through piping, and the piping between the electrolytic cell and the radiator is equipped somewhere therein with a pump for forcibly circulating the electrolytic solution. The controller controls the operation of the pump at least on the basis of the electrolytic-solution temperature measured with the temperature sensor and thereby regulates the electrolytic-solution temperature to a value in a given temperature range.
