<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an α-hydroxyketone compound easily and with a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: In the process for producing an α-hydroxyketone compound, a coupling reaction of an aldehyde compound is conducted in the presence of an imidazolinium salt represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group optionally having a substituent or an aryl group optionally having a substituent, or R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>are connected with each other to form a ring together with carbon atoms to which they are connected, and R<SP POS="POST">3</SP>and R<SP POS="POST">4</SP>each independently represent an aryl group having one or more electron withdrawing groups, and X<SP POS="POST">-</SP>represents an anion) and a base compound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
