<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus which can decrease an occurrence frequency of an ejection error of liquid by performing necessary cleaning after paper jam is released while suppressing unnecessary cleaning on a liquid ejecting head when a printing medium is jammed, and to provide a method for printing. <P>SOLUTION: When paper jam is detected, in the case that the cause of the paper jam is a CR motor error in which the speed of the carriage is decreased by an amount corresponding a load when the paper jam occurs and becomes equal to or lower than a set speed (S1), when there is an instruction to continue printing (YES, at S6 and S8), cleaning is performed on a printing head (S10). In this case, it is determined whether the paper position is particularly in a one-side supporting range in which the paper is supported by only one pair of transporting roller pairs provided at each of an upstream side and a downstream side of a transporting direction of the paper with a moving path of the printing head (S9) interposed therebetween.
