<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machined surface defect determination method for precisely determining a blow hole area useful for measuring the size of a blow hole in a machined surface, and to provide a machined surface quality inspection method with high reliability. <P>SOLUTION: In binarization step 102 and luminance gradient extraction step 103, a binary image and a luminance gradient extraction image are obtained for an original image of a machined surface. On the basis of a defect detection image formed by superimposing the images in superimposition step 105, a blow hole area in the machined surface is determined in a blow hole determination step. In the blow hole determination step 106, a binary image formed by enlarging the blow hole part in the binary image and the luminance gradient extraction image are logically multiplied, and the resultant area of the blow hole (blow hole (edge area) in the luminance gradient extraction image) is used as a determination result, to precisely determine the blow hole area regardless of a threshold of the binarization.
